Presenter:
Prof. K.K. Gan (Ohio State Univ.)

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN is the highest energy particle collider in the world. The collider has the potential to produce a new heavy particle not predicted in the Standard Model of particle physics. So far the searches for the more conventional decay of a new particle have not been successful. There is therefore great interest in the search for unconventional decays. I will review the results of the searches for such exotica by the ATLAS experiment.

Bio: K.K. Gan received his PhD in experimental particle physics from Purdue University.  Following a postdoctoral appointment at Stanford, he joined the Physics faculty at Ohio State University in 1990.  Presently a member of the ATLAS Experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider, where he serves as Chair of the Pixel Institution Board, KK is a leader in the development of new technologies for particle physics experiments, as well as in novel methods for searching for Physics beyond the Standard Model.  He is the recipient of numerous awards and prizes including the APS Fellowship, the DOE Outstanding Junior Investigator Award, and the shared Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics.
