Pushing the Limits of Radial Velocity Exoplanet Science with NEID and NETS

Extreme precision radial velocity (EPRV) spectrographs are making strides in extending the limits of radial velocity exoplanet detection. The NEID Earth Twin Survey (NETS), a long-term RV search for low-mass planets around nearby, Sun-like stars with the NEID spectrograph, is among the most significant contributors to this effort. The NETS data set has enabled new exoplanet discoveries, the refinement of cutting-edge stellar variability mitigation methods, and detailed characterization of the performance of NEID itself. For many of our target stars – all of which have an extensive radial velocity monitoring history – we have far surpassed the exoplanet sensitivity limits achieved with the previous generation of instruments. I will present science highlights from this survey, including notable exoplanet discoveries, and I will describe how I have leveraged the data set to diagnose and improve instrument performance. I will conclude with the future outlook of NEID and the EPRV field at large, which is now perfectly positioned to play a key role in informing the design and target selection for the Habitable Worlds Observatory.
