Measuring high-z quasars with the James Webb Space Telescope

High-redshift (z~6) quasars are a key probe of the formation and growth of supermassive black holes in the early Universe. JWST is now transforming this field, giving us an unprecedented view of these quasars and their host galaxies. In this talk, I will present new results from JWST/NIRSpec IFU observations of high- quasars in the GA-NIFS and PEARLS GTO programs, including measurements of black hole masses, quasar-driven outflows, local kpc-scale environments, and black hole-host mass ratios. These include the most extreme black hole-to-stellar mass ratio yet measured, as well as a remarkable system caught in a train-wreck merger with multiple galaxies and a tidal stream. Together, these studies show how JWST is opening a new window on the growth of the first black holes and their host galaxies.
