Evolution of collective neutrino oscillations in supernovae

The nonlinear evolution of neutrino flavors in dense environments, such as core-collapse supernovae, remains an unresolved problem. It is known that neutrino self-interactions in dense neutrino-rich regions can lead to collective oscillations. If these oscillations occur fast within the supernova core, they could deposit energy into stalled bounce shocks, potentially reviving them and driving successful supernova explosions.
In this talk, I will present our latest findings on the dynamics of fast neutrino flavor conversions (FFCs). We explore these dynamics using both one-dimensional (1D) and zero-dimensional (0D) models, where spatial advection is accounted for in the former and neglected in the latter. I will report how collisional instability can lead to further flavor conversions on a long time scale in 1D models after the asymptotic state of FFC has been reached. Such an effect should be taken into consideration when the fast and collisional flavor instabilities coexist.
